Are Hip Parents Really That Cool?

For those who fall into these archetypal categories, having children is no longer something people simply do. It is a conscious lifestyle choice, one among many ushered in by access to birth control, delayed marriage, and greater opportunities for women in the workplace. In this sense, the stakes are much higher. If parenthood is a choice, then people risk compromising their sense of identity as well as their much-cherished freedom by making it.
Long article, but definitely describes a lot of the parenting going on today.

  1. I started towards a "what dorks!" mockery, but really I find this terribly sad, painful. I think we Americans create an immense amount of pain for ourselves in our hysterical denial of and avoidance of pain.
