Chesterton at Ave Maria

I had the opportunity to visit Ave Maria University's campus yesterday, and wandered over to the book store.

I was impressed by the large number of Chesterton titles they had there. They looked like a distributor for Ignatius Press ;-).

I'm glad this educational institution has seen the wisdom of studying the works of the great GKC.

  1. Ugh. Please don't mingle the good name of the Chesterton Society with Tom Monaghan and Ave Maria. GKC would utterly loathe the man.

    You have been warned.

  2. Hmmmm... trying to picture my beloved Chesterton loathing anyone... Naw! Can't do it. Didn't loathe Shaw; didn't loathe Wells (though Belloc did); didn't loathe Darrow. I think you've got the wrong GKC.

  3. Point taken. Allow me to clarify my statement. GKC would loathe Tom Monaghan's highly dysfunctional management, his notions about faith and life, and his treatment of people as means to personal ends. GKC would have much to say.

  4. The prominence of GKC as represented at A.M.U. is undoubtedly related to the presence of Father Joseph Fessio, S.J., who is the founder and director of Ignatius Press, the foremost publisher of Chesterton's works. Fr. F started as Provost, and continues at A.M. as Professor of Theology.
