A Reader Bleg

In case you aren't familiar with the term, a "bleg" is a Blog Beg for a favor.

So, here is my request: does anyone know the answer for Matthew? He's looking for a place to host MP3 files of readings of Chesterton's.

I would love to post freely on the internet about a dozen GKC essays that I had read and put into mp3 format.
I just don’t know where. Do you know of any person(s) that would host the files?

Thanks
Matthew

Does anyone know of either a free host site for these kinds of files, or know of anyone who would be willing to host the files?

Thanks.

  1. http://librivox.org/

    Here's what they're about:

"LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and release he audio files back onto the net. Our goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books. We are a totally volunteer, open source, free content, public domain project."

And here's how to get started:

  2. Definitely put stuff on librivox.org, because then any average joe can get to it, and they have a standardized way of doing things which just makes sense.

For the record, though, if you get a Gmail account, you can login to Gmail, then go to googlepages.com, and set up a 100mb account for free. I think you can upload up to 20mb files. It's the one of the few free file hosting sites I'd waste my time with.

  3. You could always make it a podcast. While what you want to host is technically not a podcast, you could get some pretty reasonable hosting through any of the major podcasting outlets. TalkShoe is cheap/free, while Liberated Syndication is $5 a month, I know.

Disclaimer, I work for a podcasting service.

  4. do you friendly folks know of any GK local club pages that would host it?

i like the idea of librivox, but I'd have to go and edit all the files to follow their formating rules. i'm tired. so tired.

can't host it myself. I'll be sans technology soon.

  5. That librivox.org site reminds me of Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451". (hah!)

  7. You can also check out rapidshare.com. It's free and I have uploaded audio files for others to download previously. They do have a size limit, but you can do multiple uploads. Just a thought.
